Enjoying a healthy sex life isn’t just about the sex itself. In fact, what you do after sex is super important, too. And not having a thorough post love-making routine can leave you vulnerable to urinary tract infections and other issues. So, to ensure that you can enjoy sex and stay healthy, do these five things after sex.

Wipe with water and non-fragrant soap

Amidst all the passionate lovemaking, bacteria can spread. But it won’t hurt you if you take a moment to wipe the genital area with water and a non-fragrant soap. Avoid perfumed products which can interrupt the natural bacteria and pH of the vagina. And never wash the vagina itself.

Take a warm bath

Sex isn’t bad for the vagina, however, there can be irritation and swelling after lovemaking. A warm bath, with a drop of coconut oil, can help to sooth and hydrate the skin.

Stay hydrated

Sex can be similar to exercise, so afterwards, it’s important to drink lots of water. This will help hydrate your body, and it will also help to flush away bacteria that could cause UTI’s.

Add probiotics to your diet

According to Kelly Kasper, M.D. and ob-gyn, “yogurt, kimchi, kombucha and other fermented foods have the same good bacteria that are found in the vagina.” So, be sure to include some probiotic foods in your diet to maintain good vaginal bacteria and prevent infection.

Skip your underwear

A good way to prevent infection is to keep the genital area dry. To do this, avoid tight-fitting underwear, tights and pants. Instead, skip underwear altogether, and when going to bed, wear lose pajama bottoms to keep things airy and dry.
