Ever since Oprah Winfrey’s powerful Cecil B. DeMille acceptance speech at the Golden Globes ceremony, headlines are buzzing about a 2020 presidential run for this media mogul. And while accounts vary on whether or not Oprah Winfrey will run for president, it seems that she’s not interested in a political career.

Three weeks before winning the Cecil B DeMille award, Winfrey had an interview with InStyle about running for president or not. She shared that, “I’ve always felt very secure and confident with myself in knowing what I could do and what I could not. And it’s not something that interests me. I don’t have the DNA for it.”

But according to this CNN poll, people throughout the United States disagree, 51% choosing Winfrey over Trump (42%).

Winfrey’s friends, along Gayle King and life partner, Stedman Graham, have also added flame to the fire, revealing that she was “actively thinking” about a presidential race. However, this doesn’t seem to line up with Winfrey’s repeated statements about not running for office.

When speaking with Stephan Colbert, Winfrey said that she would “never” run for a political position.

And when it came to The Hollywood Reporter’s podcast, Winfrey was not interested in discussing a campaign against Trump because as she put it, “I will never run for public office.”

From her consistent disinterest in a presidential race, it seems pretty safe to say that Winfrey will leave that job for someone else. In the meantime, there’s no doubt she will continue to empower and push women – and men – to create a more equal and just world.
