Supermodel, Gigi Hadid and her popstar boyfriend, Zayn Malik, have split after two years together. They announced their break up separately via Twitter on Tuesday, and fans all over the world are mourning the loss of their favorite couple.

Over the last two years, fans gave Gigi Hadid and her boyfriend, Zayn Malik the endearing name, “ZiGi”. So, as one could imagine, their split came as quite a shock to millions of followers: 66 million on Instagram and 35 million on Twitter, to be exact.

In a statement made on her Twitter account (@GiGiHadid), Gigi wrote, “Breakup statements often seem impersonal because there is really no way to put into words what two people experience over a few years…not only in the relationships, but in life in general. I’m forever grateful for the love, time, and life lessons that Z and I shared. I want nothing but the best for him and will continue to support him as a friend that I have immense respect and love for. As for the future, whatever’s meant to be will always be.”

Of course, breakups are never easy, but it’s always refreshing to see couples continuing to show love and respect even after they part ways.

Zayn echoed Gigi’s sentiments in his tweet (@zaynmalik) saying, “Gigi and I had an incredibly meaningful, loving and fun relationship and I have a huge amount of respect and adoration for Gigi as a woman and a friend…I’m grateful to all of our fans for respecting this difficult decision and our privacy at this time, we wish this news could have come from us first…”

Privacy might be a difficult thing to get following a high-profile celebrity breakup, but one thing’s for sure. The love and respect Gigi and Zayn have for each other is going to make fans love them even more.
