Oscar award winning actress, Kate Winslet, is loved and admired by fans all over the world. And what’s not to love? She’s a brilliant actress, a cool mother and a woman who’s hard-working and down to earth. Now amidst the rising accusations against Hollywood mogul, Harvey Weinstein, Winslet is speaking up and we love her more than ever.

Back in 1994, Winslet made her big break in the  film, Heavenly Creatures. She auditioned for four months and was finally given the role by director, Peter Jackson. This film was distributed by Miramax – a Weinstein company.

Winslet recently shared that Weinstein always insisted that he was the one who gave her her “first movie”, and therefore her subsequent break through and success.

But Winslet refuses to buy that and she boldly stated, “How dare he even sow that seed in my mind, that in some way any part of my career had anything to do with him rooting for me or pushing for me or putting my name forward.”

In all of her dealings with Weinstein, Winslet was resolute and stuck to her guns, and she wouldn’t do “ridiculous requests” that he asked of her.

In the end, Weinstein did’t like Winslet and called her “difficult”, but the more we learn about Weinstein’s bullying and sexually aggressive behavior, the more we can admire and respect Winslet for her determination and resistance.

Winslet didn’t worry about Weinstein’s praise and approval and she didn’t need it to become a great actress. She’s gone on to earn six Academy nominations and won Best Actress for her performance in The Reader.

She’s definitely won a place in our hearts as leading lady when it comes to feminism and women’s rights.
