If you find yourself constantly comparing yourself to others – especially on social media – life coach, Lucy Sheridan, is the woman for you. She’s the author of #HigherSelfie: Wake Up Your Life, Free Your Soul, Find Your Tribe, and she’s currently the world’s first and only “Comparison Coach”. Recently, she spoke on Emma Gannon’s podcast, “Ctrl, Alt, Delete”, and her tips can help you deal with comparison.

Comparison has been a big problem for Sheridan ever since she was a little girl. She thought this constant comparing was normal, but unfortunately, her hyper-comparison was a bit extreme.

Luckily, Sheridan’s experiences of dealing with and overcoming comparison are so relevant today. We live in an epidemic of comparison that’s gotten increasingly worse now that social media is such a huge part of our lives.

So, what’s a girl to do? Is there any way to escape it? The answer is both yes and no.

Even with all of her work with comparison, Sheridan confesses that she still experiences it, but when she does, here’s her advice:

Don’t deny it. Instead, fully acknowledge it and sit in it. If you let yourself feel it fully, you’ll probably be free of it the next day. If you don’t let yourself experience it, you’ll end up denying it, suppressing it and having a huge venting and gossip session with your BFF. This isn’t a healthy or productive way to deal with comparison.

But what happens when other people compare themselves to you? Should you cover up your accomplishments and live small?

Sheridan reminds you that it’s not your responsibility to deal with other people’s issues and feelings. It’s important to live brightly and authentically and even though certain areas of your life may be a comparison trigger for some people, there’s no reason to apologize for who you are and what you have, or to stop living big.

With a new year comes new beginnings. And for many of us, it’s that time of year when you want to clean out your wardrobe and tidy up. If that’s the case, you’re probably not sure what to do with your gently worn closet pieces. Before you toss them, why not sell unwanted clothes in any of these 3 online stores? It’s a fun way to make a little money and help another savvy shopper find the right piece, too.
