Last month, first lady Melania Trump underwent a kidney procedure for a benign condition. However, it kept her out of the public eye for nearly a month, leading to much speculation from the media. This week, the first lady broke her absence with a public appearance alongside President Donald Trump at a briefing on disaster preparedness.

Stylish as always, the first lady attended the briefing wearing a classic tan trench coat and stilettos, as she and the president made their way from the Oval Office, while on their way to a FEMA briefing to prepare for hurricane season.

Trump began the meeting thanking those present, including his wife, saying, “Of course, we have to start with our great first lady, Melania. Thank you, Melania. She’s doing great. We’re very proud of her, she’s done a fantastic job as first lady. People love you. The people of our country love you.”

Her public appearance comes after the media has spent much time speculating about her absence and her whereabouts. Both the president and Melania have responded to these speculations separately.

Yesterday, President Trump tweeted (@realDonaldTrump), “The Fake News Media has been so unfair, and vicious, to my wife and our great First Lady, Melania. During her recovery from surgery they reported everything from near death, to facelift, to left the W.H. (and me) for N.Y. or Virginia, to abuse. All Fake, she is doing really well!”

The first lady (@FLOTUS) has also personally addressed the media saying she was “feeling great, & working hard on behalf of children & the American people.”
