Samantha Bee is known for using colorful language on her show, Full Frontal. However, on Thursday, Bee made a comment about Ivanka Trump that stirred up a lot of controversy. Amidst the backlash, Bee attended the Television Academy Honors where she accepted an award.

On a Full Frontal episode, which aired on Wednesday, Bee discussed the separation of undocumented families at the US border. She criticized both the Obama administration and the current administration for their actions saying, “Tearing children away from their parents is so evil.”

She then shared a photo of Trump holding her child, and directed her monologue to her. “Ivanka Trump, who works at the White House, chose to pose the second most oblivious tweet we’ve seen this week. You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices, you feckless c***!”

The following day, Bee took to Twitter to publicly apologize to Trump saying (@iamsambee), “I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it.”

The White House went one step further,. White House press secretary Sarah Sanders called Bee’s attack “vile and vicious.”  Sanders continued saying “Executives at Time Warner and TBS must demonstrate that such explicit profanity about female members of this administration will not be condoned on its network.”

This attack comes days after Roseanne Barr made a racist comment about former Obama administration advisor, Valerie Jarrett. Following Barr’s comment, ABC canceled her show altogether.
