The Obamas may have left the White House, but soon they’ll be in the homes of millions of Americans thanks to the newest development for Barack and Michelle Obama. On Monday, Netflix announced that the Obamas signed a production deal with them. Might it be time to renew your subscription?

Netflix made the announcement via Twitter yesterday saying (@netflix), “President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama have entered into a multi-year agreement to produce films and series for Netflix, potentially including scripted series, unscripted series, docu-series, documentaries, and features.”

People first heard rumors of the Netflix deal back in March, according to The New York Times, which shared that the Obamas would produce “exclusive content that would be available only on the streaming service, which has nearly 118 million subscribers around the world.”

The article continued to clear up any speculations that the Obamas would use this new platform to make political statements against President Trump. “Mr. Obama does not intend to use his Netflix shows to directly respond to President Trump or conservative critics.”

So, what will their production company, “Higher Ground Productions” focus on?

According to a Netflix statement, the former president said, “We hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voice who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.”

Michelle continued by explaining why stories hold such a central place not only for her and Barack but for the Netflix programs, too, “Barack and I have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire us, to make us think differently about the world around us, and to help us open our minds and hearts to others.”
