Whenever you stand in the checkout lane at your grocery or department store, you usually get to browse at a variety of magazines, including Cosmopolitan. But that’s going to change in thousands of Walmart stores throughout the US.

Soon, Walmart will remove Cosmopolitan from their checkout lane selection. This will go into effect in 5,000 stores nationwide. But why is Cosmopolitan getting the boot?

Walmart spokesperson, Meggan Kring, said in a statement: “As with all products in our store, we continue to evaluate our assortment and make changes. Walmart will continue to offer Cosmopolitan to customers that wish to purchase the magazine, but it will no longer be located in the checkout aisles. While this was primarily a business decision, the concerns raised were heard.”

This statement is somewhat vague, but digging deeper, it the magazine move was something done for moral reasons.

An organization called, the National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE), said on Tuesday that they were behind creating this policy change. They shared that “You can go through and buy your groceries with your family knowing you don’t have to be exposed to this graphic and often degrading and offensive material.”

Therefore, after a year-long campaign and pressure from the NCOSE, along with the rise of the #METOO movement, Walmart has decided to move Cosmopolitan away from checkout lanes.

Vegetarians and environmentalists have long eschewed meat. They believe that meat is an unhealthy food for both people and the planet alike. And while many meat alternatives are already available, they’re not really meat. They’re mostly made with soy and legume-based products. But now “clean meat”, or lab-grown meat, may soon be a viable option to satisfy people and maybe even save the environment.
