To win gold at the 2018 Olympic Games is already a big accomplishment. But to win gold against Canada’s top hockey team is a huge achievement for the US women’s hockey team.

To put it into perspective, the last time the US women’s hockey team won gold was at the 1998 Winter Olympics. Since then, Canada has taken home every gold.

So, the tension was high, and everyone was on the edge of their seats during this incredibly close game.

Canada was in the lead up until the third period, when US player, Monique Lamoureux-Morando tied the game. This lead to the nail-biting shoot-out, where team USA won 3-2 shootout. The winning goal was scored by Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson.

And yes, Monique and Jocelyne Lamoureux are sisters – twin sisters to be precise. And they’ve been training long and hard to win gold against Canada.

In an interview, Monique shared, “It’s tough to put into words – we’ve literally been training for four years for this one game.”

And her sister, Jocelyne echo’s her sister saying, “We have played this game thousands of times in our heads and prepared for it, months of preparation: physically, mentally…”

All their hard work has definitely payed off, and this victory for Team USA is literally a dream come true for these determined women.
