On Thursday, just one day after President Trump signed an executive order reversing the separation of children from their parents as part of the “zero tolerance” policy, his wife, Melania Trump, made a surprise visit to a border detention facility in Texas. However, it’s not her visit that the media is focusing on. Instead, it’s her jacket, which is causing quite a stir.
Trump was seen wearing a two-year old Zara jacket as she boarded her flight at Andrews Air Force Base. it was an olive green jacket, with white graffiti style letters that boldly declared: “I really don’t care. Do U?”
People are decrying her fashion choice. While no one knows exactly what this jacket is referring to, it appears to be an insensitive and perhaps even callous choice for her trip to detention centers near the U.S-Mexico border.
Over 2,300 children have been separated from their parents in what former first lady, Laura Bush, describes as a “cruel” and “immoral” policy. Activist, Michelle Brané, who visited a facility in Texas, went so far so say she saw “child neglect” there.
Trump was not seen wearing the jacket upon arriving at the facility in Texas, however, she was wearing it again on her return in Washington.
In response to the media uproar, Trump’s communications director, Stephanie Grisham tweeted (@StephGrisham45), “Today’s visit w the children in Texas impacted @flotus greatly. If media would spend their time & energy on her actions & efforts to help kids – rather than speculate & focus on her wardrobe – we could get so much accomplished on behalf of children #SHeCares #ItsJustAJacket”
But according to her husband, Melania’s trump isn’t just a jacket. In a tweet from the president (@realDonaldTrump), we’re told, “‘I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?’ Written on the back of Melania’s jacket, refers to the Fake News Media. Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares.”
