Your home should be a place that feels good – where you can relax and unwind. But sometimes, the items and colors in your home keep that from happening. And that’s where Feng Shui comes in. It’s an ancient Chinese philosophical approach to arranging and organizing your space. So, here’s how you can incorporate the five elements of Feng Shui to make your home calm and peaceful.
The five elements are a central part of Feng Shui, and these elements are: metal, fire, earth, wood and water. One of the key principles in Feng Shui is to create balance between these elements.
But how do these elements show up in your home and how are you supposed to balance them out? For starters, each room or space should have some of each element, and here are simple ways to do that
Metal: Think of circular shapes, in the form of table tops, mirrors or even artwork to tap into this element.
Fire: For pillows, throws and even artwork, focus on warm reds, purples and pinks to create warmth. Burning a candle is a good way to incorporate fire, too.
Earth: Walls painted in subdued and neutral colors are an easy way to work the earth element into any space. Having a plant, even a tiny succulent, can increase the earthy vibes, too.
Wood: It’s easy to incorporate the wood element via furniture and trimming. You can even bring in firewood or delicate branches for a more organic effect.
Water: Blues and blacks invoke the water element, but because these colors can dampen the fire element, try to avoid water and fire colors sharing the same immediate space.
