The 2018 Winter Olympics have come and gone, and over the last two weeks, we’ve witnessed incredible feats, tears of joy, and historic moments. Last night, the closing ceremony in Pyeongchang created even more lasting memories. So, in case you missed it, here are some of the top highlights.
EXO
South Korea’s hugely popular boyband, Exo, performed, much to the delight of their world-wide fanbase. Dressed in black slacks, and white blazers, the 7-member group seemed effortlessly cool as they danced and sang.
Ivanka Trump
First-daughter, Ivanka Trump, represented her father at the closing ceremony. However, her presence, along with her political involvement, has sparked criticism and controversy, too.
K-Pop star CL
Born in Seoul, this rap star hadn’t performed in South Korea for years. So, her return to the stage was both meaningful to her, and to her Korean-based fans. She wowed crowds with her hit “The Baddest Female”.
Topless Tonga
Of course, the closing ceremony wouldn’t be complete without an appearance from Pita Taufatofua, a cross-country skier, who likes to present himself sans shirt and well-oiled.
Young talent
Not only did the closing ceremony celebrate the world’s greatest athletes, but it also celebrated South Korea’s budding musical talent. From the 13-year old Yang Tae-hwan, who is known as the “Guitar Hero”, to Oh Yeon-joon, an 11-year old vocalist who sang the Olympic anthem, audiences found inspiration in these young artists, too.
Marit Bjørgen
Cross-country athlete, Bjørgen of Norway, was awarded her eighth olympic gold medal at the closing ceremony. It was a moment that millions of viewers watched from around the world.
Beijing’s skating pandas
Beijing will host the next winter olympic games, and to celebrate this, glowing pandas took to the ice, in a light-hearted performance.
