3 ways to wake up when your alarm clock goes off

When the alarm goes off every morning, is it hard to push away your warm covers and get out of bed? There are lots of reasons why we struggle to wake up with the first alarm clock. But whatever the reason is for staying in bed well past snooze, here are three super simple tips to help you to wake up and seize the day.

Stay hydrated

Drinking water has lots of health benefits. But staying up to speed on your water intake can help you wake up once the alarm goes off. According to the National Sleep Foundation, “Going to bed even mildly dehydrated can disrupt your sleep”, and that goes for dry mouth and nasal passages, muscles cramps and even a decline in cognitive performance the next day.

Don’t skimp on exercise

It should come as no surprise that the many health benefits of physical fitness extends to better sleep. Experts say that “early morning and afternoon exercises may also help reset the sleep wake cycle by raising body temperature slightly, then allowing it to drop and trigger sleepiness a few hours later.”

So, it’s a good idea to avoid exercise in the evening, as this can disrupt your sleep cycle by raising your body temperature too high.

Have a breakfast you’re excited about

If getting up means going out into the cold, going to work and dealing with the same problems you had to face the day before, that’s not much motivation to wake up. But what if you planned a yummy breakfast for yourself? Maybe it’s the ultimate homemade breakfast bowl. Maybe it’s a croissant, fresh out of the oven.

Whatever your ideal breakfast is, if you have something to look forward to, it can help you wake up when you hear that dreaded alarm.

We don’t usually look at our monthly period all too favorably.  Usually, it’s just a painful and uncomfortable phase you dread and can’t wait to get through. But your PMS symptoms are actually like a monthly report that give you cues about your overall health. So, once you know how to decipher your PMS symptoms, you can take steps to address underlying health problems.
