Jennifer Aniston, who just days ago, celebrated her 49th birthday with close friends, announced her split with husband, Justin Theroux. While we could all get swept up in tabloids and gossip, and even mourn this separation, we can also admire Aniston and how she made the announcement yesterday.
Aniston met Theroux on set back in 2011. After dating for four years, they wed in a surprise ceremony. And to audiences and fans, things seemed fine.
However, toward the end of last year, people noticed that the couple had started to spend less time together – Aniston remaining in L.A., while Theroux passed his time in New York City.
Anyone who has gone through a break up, or a divorce knows that it can take a toll on you emotionally. And it’s especially understandable that this high-profile couple wanted to move through this separation quietly.
However, after growing suspicions and speculations started filling the tabloids, Aniston released a statement through her publicist yesterday, and it’s truly a testament to her equanimity and character.
In her statement, Aniston said, “In an effort to reduce any further speculation, we have decided to announce our separation. This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year. We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship.”
Break-ups tend to be torrential affairs, but Aniston and Theroux “are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another,” proving that break ups don’t have to be messy.
Instead, they can be executed with the same love that brought the couple together in the first place.
