Muffin top, love handles, belly fat. Whatever you want to call it, you probably would rather be without it. Maybe now, more than ever, since spring and summer fashion is upon us. And if you’re keen on slimming down your midsection, you’ll want to check out these six muffin top workout moves.
According to a 2009 study, the combination of a low-carb diet, strength-training and cardio workouts can help to trim down midsection fat. And certified strength and conditioning coach, Marta Montenegro, has created a workout that offers just that. Here are the six muffin top workout moves in Montenegro’s circuit.
Dumbbell Squat to Shoulder-Press Rotation
Because this move works both the legs and the upper body, it’s a very effective move for the core – even better than exercise moves that target only the core.
Towel Leg-Ins
This move will activate the obliques, and the upper and lower abdominal muscles. Just remember to do this move on a smooth surface so the towel slides more easily.
Lunge to Overhead Press
This might not be the ab move you’re expecting, but the core is what helps you stay stable as you press those weight up.
Towel One-Arm Rollout
According to Montenegro, this move activates deep abdominal muscles and helps you zip up your abs.
Unilateral Dumbbell Dead-Lift
Because this move includes movement (raising your back leg), it super activates the core muscles.
Towel Mountain Climbers
To make sure your abs do all the work with mountain climbers, Montenegro recommends using a towels underneath each foot to keep your ab muscles activated and engaged the entire time.
