Over the weekend, Bode Miller and wife, Morgan, lost their 19-month daughter in a tragic accident. The toddler fell into a swimming pool where she drowned, leaving both Miller and his family “beyond devastated.”
Normally, we see Bode Miller’s name with much more uplifting headlines. He is, after all, the winner of six Olympic medals and the most successful US skier.
On Saturday, both Miller and his wife, Morgan, attended a party a neighbor’s party on Saturday night. At the party, their 19-month old daughter, Emeline, made her way to a pool and fell in.
Morgan found her in the pool and jumped in to rescue her. She tried to resuscitate her with CPR, but wasn’t able to do so. According to the Orange County Fire Department, paramedics rushed to the home, where they also tried to revive the baby before taking her to a local hospital. There, she was confirmed dead.
In an Instagram post on Monday, the olympic skier shared (@millerbode), “We are beyond devastated. Our baby girl, Emmy, passed away yesterday. Never in a million years did we think we would experience a pain like this. Her love, her light, her spirit will never be forgotten. Our little girl loved like and lived it to it’s fullest everyday. Our family respectfully requests privacy during this painful time.”
Together with his wife Morgan, a professional beach volleyball player, Bode has a three year old son, Nash. Morgan is currently pregnant with their third child.
