On Monday, Kate Middleton gave birth to her third child, and everyone has been waiting ever since to find out what the royal baby name is. Today, the proud parents announced his name. It’s a name most people were not expecting, but it’s one rich in meaning and significance.
In a statement from their residence, Kensington Palace, Price William and Middleton announced, “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles. The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.”
It’s a big name for such a little boy, but it’s a name he will surely be excited about as he gets older. Louis (pronounced loo-ee), means “renowned warrior”. The name pays tribute to both Prince Philip’s grandfather, as well as Prince Charles, whose uncle and friend was named Earl Louis Mountbatten.
In Celtic, Arthur means “bear”, and it calls to mind the great legend of King Arthur and the Round Table. Now, Prince Louis shares the same middle name as both his father, Prince William and grandfather, Prince Charles.
The name Charles honors Prince William’s father, Prince Charles, who is very happy about the birth of his new grandson. In a statement from Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, he said, “We are both so pleased at the news. It is a great joy to have another grandchild, the only trouble is I don’t know how I am going to keep up with them.”
