Some women know exactly which career they want – until they get it. Then, they realize they’re on the wrong path. For other women, finding the right job is like shopping for the perfect dress. Everything looks good on the mannequin, but nothing feels right on you. In short, finding your dream job is hard. There’s lots of advice out there on how to make this whole thing easier, but there’s one super important thing you probably never hear.
When you were growing up, you probably had ideas about what you wanted to do. And there was probably a career path you were expected to follow. So, you went through a long checklist of everything you “should” do.
Maybe your list contained valuable things like:
- Volunteer
- Intern
- Earn a degree
- Earn another degree
- Get a promotion
The list goes on and on, but there’s one thing this, or any other list, probably never has on it, and it’s this question:
How do you want to feel at your job?
In other words, imagine the feelings and emotions you want to experience Monday-through-Friday, and then decide what job would help you feel this way.
Otherwise, we only focus on what we need to do to have a certain job, only to find out that it leaves us feeling bored, uninspired, burned out and even resentful.
So, how can you figure out which job will give you all the feels?
Think back to when you felt great, and ask yourself what you were doing. Can you translate this activity into a job?
Another idea is to meditate and journal. This helps to clear your mind so you can identify the emotions and experiences you want to attract into your life.
