When we think about aging, our mind usually races to the outward signs of aging, like gray hair and wrinkles. And we combat them with expensive anti-aging cosmetics. But aging doesn’t just occur on the outside. What’s more, poor aging can occur without us even realizing it. So, if you’re noticing these three signs of poor aging, these are the steps to reverse them.
Joint pain
As we grow older, cartilage starts to break down in the body, and this can lead to joints that are inflamed and swollen. And this is why achy, sore joints are a sign of poor aging.
To reverse joint pain, be sure to eat plenty of anti-inflammatory and antioxidant-rich foods, like dark, leafy green vegetables and colorful berries and fruits. Bone broth can also supply your body with collagen to support healthy cartilage.
Varicose veins
Varicose veins are super common – about 50 percent of adults over the age of 50 have them. But varicose veins can be a sign that you’re aging poorly due to a sedentary lifestyle. And even though varicose veins seem benign, having them also puts you at risk for obesity and cardiovascular disease.
While it might be difficult to eliminate varicose veins, you can prevent them from getting worse, while also preventing their associated risks, by living a more active lifestyle. Walking and cycling are two great places to start.
Chronic inflammation
According to Dr. Axe, “inflammation is at the root of most diseases” and unfortunately, “stress plays a role in fueling age-related inflammation.” So, while it’s important to reduce inflammation with a diet rich in antioxidants, nourishing fats and whole foods, it’s also important to reduce inflammation by lowering stress.
Exercise, mindfulness practices, such as yoga and meditation, as well as therapy and creative outlets can help to reduce stress and reduce inflammatory conditions in the body.
