What is circuit training?
Circuit training is actually a pretty simple concept, and sounds a lot like it’s name. It’s a workout where you perform single sets of specific exercise moves, with the shortest rest breaks in between each one. That makes up one circuit, and your entire workout can consist of several different circuits.
Each circuit can have anywhere from three to eight exercises, which you perform for a certain amount of reps. The exercise movements are usually a mix of weight training and cardio. The focus here is to work as many different muscle groups in a short time period.

After working out, your body needs a certain amount of oxygen to get back to it’s normal, metabolic function. And with intense circuit training routines, your body needs a lot of oxygen to get back to normal. And depending on the length and intensity of your circuit training, you can burn calories for a full 48 hours after the workout.
Who should try circuit training?
The truth is, just about everyone – especially if you like a quick, intense workout. But there are a few groups of people who should avoid it. If you struggle with high blood pressure or heart problems, it’s best to avoid circuit training and opt for a more restorative option.
