5 job interview mistakes to always avoid

You filled out lots of applications, you waited patiently and now, you have an interview. So, first give yourself a congratulatory pat on the back. Then, start prepping so you nail the interview, make a great first impression, and even land the position. To help you do that, here are 5 job interview mistakes you should always avoid.

Don’t repeat your resume, tell you story

If you’ve gotten this far, your potential employer has already read your resume. And the last they want is to hear you repeat it verbatim. Instead, talk about yourself, describing your strengths and experiences.

Avoid big bags

For better or for worse, people make instant judgements about you based on your outside appearance. And a big bag can be too much and downright distracting. What’s worse, it can even make you scattered and disorganized.

It’s an interview, not a fashion show

Depending on the company, different dress codes will apply. But always err on the side of caution when it comes to your outfit. Something too provocative, or too casual is almost certainly going to compromise your chances.

Be confident

Desperate candidates aren’t attractive, so no matter how badly you want and/or need this job, make a conscious effort to be confident. This is a trait that goes a long way in the hiring process.

Don’t rehash negative job experiences

Your control freak manager might be the reason why you want a new job, but this isn’t something you share in your interview. Instead, focus on you, and why you’re a great fit for the company.
