What’s in a name? When it comes to a royal wedding invitation, a lot! In a marriage steeped in tradition and formalities, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s invitation are no different. And fans might be confused about a couple “typos”, but as you’ll see, they’re very intentional.

The beautiful invitation reads, “His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales requests the pleasure of the company of _______ at the marriage of his royal highness Prince Henry of Wales with Mx. Meghan Markle at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle on Saturday, 19th May 2018 at 12 non followed by a reception at Windsor Castle.”

The first noticeable “mistake” is that a new Prince Henry is going to marry American’s sweetheart, Meghan Markle. But that’s no mistake.

Prince Harry’s real name is actually Henry Charles Albert David. He simply goes by Harry. But that might make fans ask why Meghan Markle isn’t given her official name, Rachel Meghan Markle.

It seems that as a non-royal, Markle has more freedom in the name she uses on the wedding invitation, and since she is known as Meghan, she chose to keep this on the invitation.

Finally, in her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton’s wedding invitation, Middleton was referred to as “Miss” Kate Middleton, but here, Markle goes by “Ms” Meghan Markle. Why is that?

Markle is divorced and therefore, “Ms” is the appropriate title for her.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding is many things, but it also showcases a mixing of two worlds and two cultures. And perhaps one thing is evident from these wording choices: Markle brings a unpretentious and familiar touch to this royal match.
