On Tuesday, the iconic American designer, Kate Spade, was found dead in her apartment. Police are describing her death as a suicide by hanging. Her death is a tragic loss for her family, friends and those who have a coveted Kate Spade bag in their wardrobe.

Yesterday, police reported that Spade was found hanging in her bedroom, using a red scarf. Her housekeeper discovered her, and at the time of her death, Spade’s husband, Andy of 24 years, was also at home.

Spade left a suicide note, in which she mentioned both her husband, and her 13 year old daughter, Frances Beatrix, who was at school at the time of her mother’s death.

In a statement from Spade’s family, they shared, “We are all devastated by today’s tragedy. We loved Kate dearly and will miss her terribly. We would ask that our privacy be respected as we grieve during this very difficult time.”

Her brother and actor, David Spade, mourned his sister’s death with an Instagram post, sharing a candid shot of he and Kate together, saying (@davidspade), “Fuzzy picture but I love it. Kate and I during Christmas family photos. We had so much fun that day. She was so sharp and quick on her feet. She could make me laugh so hard. I still cant believe it. Its a rough road out there people, try to hang on.”

At this tragic time, we can follow the lead of Kate Spade New York who tweeted (@katespadeny) “We honor all the beauty she brought into this world.”

Now, the CDC calls gonorrhea an “urgent public health threat.” And it doesn’t help that a strain called super gonorrhea is popping up, too.
