This year, we’ve seen lots of celebrities get engaged. From Paris Hilton and her stunning 20-carat ring, to Ariana Grande and her whirlwind romance with Pete Davidson, 2018 has been a fun ride so far. Now, joining other newly engaged celebs, Katharine McPhee, is engaged and has quite a ring to go along with it.

American Idol alum, Katharine McPhee, got engaged earlier this month to beau and music producer, David Foster. But this exciting time has been touched by an immense loss.

Last week, McPhee’s father passed away, causing the singer/actress to take time off from her Broadway show, Waitress, to fly back to LA for a “family emergency.” 

Soon after, she announces his passing on Instagram (@katharinemcphee), saing, “it is with heavy hart that I share that my sweet sweet Papa left this earth yesterday morning. We as a family are completely heartbroken and devastated. He was my biggest fan…”

And while her father cannot see McPhee’s Broadway debut or watch her get married, he will always have a special place in her engagement story. 

In a recent post on Instagram (@katharinemcphee), the singer/actress showed off her ring in a bitter sweet post. 

She wrote, “It’s been a hard week. Lots of tears but I want to thank my friends and family for all the love and support. My dad was so happy for me. My ring was the last thing I showed my dad before he passed and makes me smile when I look at this as a reminder of our last conversation.”
