On Thursday, a gunman open-fired inside the newsroom of the Maryland newspaper, The Capital-Gazette. Officials have identified the five individuals killed in the attack. The survivors are shaken and devastated.

According to William Krampf, deputy chief of Anne Arundel County Police, “This was a targeted attack on the Capital Gazette.” Krampf went on to explain that the gunman “entered the building with a shotgun and looked for his victims as he walk through the lower level.”

When the gunman shot through the glass door of the newsroom, reporters and staff dove under their desks.

Among them was crime reporter, Phil Davis, who shared a chilling Tweet at 12:46pm Thursday, saying (@PhilDavis_CG), “There is nothing more terrifying than hearing multiple people get shot while you’re under your desk and then hear the gunman reload.”

Another shooting survivor, writer Selene San Felice, also hid under her desk during the shooting. And in an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, San Felice sad prayers and political platitudes aren’t enough at this time.

“I’ve heard that President Trump sent his prayers…But we need more than prayers…I was praying the entire time I was [hiding] under that desk…I’m going to need more than a couple days of news coverage and some thoughts and prayers because our whole lives have been shattered. Thanks for your prayers, but I couldn’t give a f—k about them if there’s nothing else.”

Despite this tragedy, Reporter Chase Cook tweeted (@capgaznews), “I can tell you this: We are putting out a damn paper tomorrow.”

And they did. This morning, the Capital Gazette published their Friday edition, with a headline reading, “5 shot dead at The Capital.”
