America is defined by being multicultural. From the very beginning, the US was made up of people from other countries – everyone looking for better opportunities and ultimately, a better life. This is still the dream for many individuals, including a caravan of migrants that has reached the US-Mexico border. The only problem is, they’re not able to get inside the United States.
Following an exhausting journey that lasted one month, hundreds of asylum-seeking migrants from Central America have finally arrived at the San Ysidro port, not far from San Diego, California.
In a tweet, Donald Trump announced (@realDonaldTrump), “I have instructed the Secretary of Homeland Security not to let these large Caravans of people into our Country. It is a disgrace.”
Therefore, prior to the caravan’s arrival, the US Customs and Border Protection announced that the San Ysidro port was full and that they wouldn’t be admitting any more migrants into the country.
This isn’t the happy ending these migrants imagined, especially after an anxious and tiring journey.
But now that they’ve come so far, these migrants are determined to wait at the border until “every last one” is allowed entry into the US. They, too, believe that America will provide them with a a better life.
An expectant mother, Gabriela Hernandez, left Honduras with her two sons, passed through Guatemala and joined the caravan in Mexico. She shared that “There are people who think I just woke up and said, ‘Oh, I want to just go to the United States.’ It’s not that easy.”
