Since becoming First Lady, Melania Trump doesn’t always seem at ease. The role of being First Lady comes with many challenges, and many sources have even speculated that Trump is unhappy in her new political position. However, as the hostess and head organizer of her first state dinner with French president and his wife, Trump was absolutely shining.
When French President Emmanuel Macron and wife, Brigitte, came to the White House for their first state dinner, Trump relied on France and it’s long history of haute couture by wearing Chanel gown. It was a gift from the designer and will be added to the National Archives.
Trump’s fashion statements are often a source of news and media attention, but her style six sense is much more comprehensive than clothing.
In the weeks leading up to her first state dinner, Trump was a diligent student, learning all about White House protocol and tradition. And she wan’t afraid to insert herself into every detail of the special event.
According to White House social secretary, Rickie Niceta, “Mrs. Trump selected every item and every detail for the dinner.”
Based on her own sense of style, Trump went with a gold and cream color scheme that transformed rooms into dreamy and majestic spaces. For Trump, nothing was overlooked. From the china, to the flowers and menu, Trump oversaw everything.
What made Trump such a great hostess? According to Stephanie Grisham, the East Wing communications director, “[Trump] has been very focused on the experience of the guests, and wants to ensure they are able to truly enjoy and remember the occasion.”
